Journey So Far

Expert Guidance

BUNIYAD has published a book that is widely used to understand grassroots issues related to land conflicts in Madhya Pradesh. This publication has been developed with the expert guidance of Shri Anil Garg, Founder Member of BUNIYAD SOCIAL WELFARE SOCIETY. His extensive experience and deep understanding of land laws and community issues have significantly contributed to analysing and documenting the complexities of land conflicts at the grassroots level.

Providing a Comprehensive Database

BUNIYAD provides a comprehensive and accessible knowledge base through insightful data analysis tailored for communicators, media professionals, and public representatives. Recognising that many research reports and analytical documents remain underutilised due to their technical language and extensive length, BUNIYAD focuses on translating complex research into concise, context-specific, and user-friendly formats.

The organisation prepares information packs and briefs by extracting relevant local context and presenting issues from a people-centric perspective, ensuring that critical insights are accessible and usable by communities, communicators, and decision-makers. These information packs serve as practical tools for building informed perspectives and enabling evidence-based advocacy.

To date, BUNIYAD has produced many Packs focused primarily on the implementation of the Forest Rights Act (FRA),2006. These Info Packs are available on YouTube and have been widely used by media professionals in news reports and articles, as well as by public representatives during legislative and assembly discussions. This demonstrates the organisation’s effectiveness in bridging the gap between research, public discourse, and policy-level engagement.

Studies and Research Work

BUNIYAD undertakes regular and systematic research studies to generate evidence that strengthens advocacy and informs public discourse. The organisation has conducted in-depth studies on a wide range of legal, policy, and community-related issues, including the Forest Rights Act 2006, Environmental Protection Act,1986, Community Forest Resources(CFR) Rights under Forest Rights Act,2006, Land Acquisition Act,1894, Indian Forest Act,1927, Biological Diversity Act,2002, Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act,1996 and land conflicts in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

These research initiatives are designed with the specific objective of supporting and advancing advocacy actions. By grounding advocacy efforts in credible research and field-based evidence, BUNIYAD ensures that its interventions are informed, strategic, and responsive to grassroots realities, thereby contributing to policy influence and the protection of community and constitutional rights.

Network of Communicators

BUNIYAD has developed an informal yet active network of writers, researchers, thinkers, and communicators who engage with issues of public interest from a rights-based and community-centric perspective. This network regularly organises forums and dialogues at district, regional, state, and sub-national levels, creating platforms for informed discussion and collective reflection.

Through this network, BUNIYAD has organised multiple training programmes and capacity-building workshops on the Forest Rights Act,2006 and the Land Acquisition Act,1894 with a focus on their effective implementation. These initiatives strengthen the ability of communicators and stakeholders to understand legal frameworks, interpret grassroots realities, and contribute meaningfully to advocacy, public discourse, and policy engagement.

Research and Documentation

BUNIYAD conducts research-based case studies and documentation on a range of legal, policy, and community-centric issues to generate evidence for advocacy and informed public discourse. The organisation has undertaken detailed studies on the Forest Rights Act (Individual Rights and Community Rights)2006, implementation of the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act,1996 and the implementation of the Land Acquisition Act,1894 with respect to indigenous communities.

In addition, BUNIYAD has carried out studies on the status of land and land governance in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, along with critical assessments of reports and data published by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), State Forest Departments, and Revenue Departments. These research and documentation efforts help identify policy gaps, implementation challenges, and systemic issues affecting forest dwellers and marginalized communities.

Collection of Data

Alongside its research work, BUNIYAD undertakes the systematic collection and compilation of official documents to support evidence-based advocacy and implementation processes. This includes the collection of circulars, orders, notifications, and de-notifications issued by the Forest, Revenue, and Tribal Departments.

These documents are analysed and organised specifically to support the effective implementation of the Forest Rights Act (FRA),2006. the Land Acquisition Act,1894 and other related legislations. By maintaining an updated and accessible repository of official records, BUNIYAD strengthens research outputs, supports field-level implementation, and facilitates informed engagement by communities, communicators, and public representatives.
Literature Development

BUNIYAD develops a wide range of resource materials to support awareness-building and capacity development at the grassroots level. These include manuals, primers, training modules, posters, reading materials, and audio-visual content, prepared primarily in local languages to ensure accessibility and wider reach.

Through these materials, BUNIYAD facilitates the creation of an informed and empowered group of people, enabling communities, communicators, and grassroots organizations to better understand legal frameworks, rights, and processes, and to engage effectively in advocacy and implementation efforts.
